About Adventure Puketi Tours

Barbara and Ian Candy have been running Adventure Puketi for ….. years. They live and farm adjacent to Puketi Forest and are passionate about the environment. All their tours are approved by the Department of Conservation. They love to share the stories, history and knowledge of the native flora and fauna with their guests.

Senior Guide

Owner and Director Ian grew up in the area and has been tramping in Puketi forest for more than 40 years. He loves to share the secrets of the forest with visitors and feels strongly about conservation.

Barbara Candy

Operations Manager

Barbara has worked in a customer focused industry her whole life, so when her husband announced that Adventure Puketi was where their future lay, her planning skills kicked into action. Barbara is the engine room of Adventure Puketi, managing the bookings, marketing, staffing and working with clients.

Senior Guide

Our longest serving guide (apart from owner Ian), and hugely passionate and knowledgeable about the conservation of the forest, the unique subtropical native flora and fauna, our mighty Kauri tree as well as local history and the stars in our stunning night sky.

Tia

Guide Extraordinaire

Tia has been part of the team for 5 years, her forest, flora, fauna and cultural knowledge is extensive. She is especially enthusiastic about plants as medicine and speaks with dedication and passion about the forest and its inhabitants.

Ann Marie Booth

Fluent in German (and English)

Anne-Marie is an experienced forest tour guide with a background in biology and herbal medicine. She is passionate about the earth, the soil and water which nourish us. Anne-Marie loves the forest with its myriad of living beings and has a special connection to the ancient plants and insects. She very much enjoys sharing her knowledge.

Amber

Social media guru

Amber spent 13 years living and working abroad in over 50 countries, even ending up in the North Pole, and on tv and radio in Vietnam. Traveling  was always her biggest passion along with conservation of nature and culture. She speak multiple languages and has now made the Bay Of Islands home
